EFT, Tapping for Anxiety is very simply Tapping with your fingertips on different points on the face, collar bone and underarms.
There are other points that we tap on but these are the ones we mostly focus on.
This Tapping stimulates the meridian pathways that run symetrically down both sides of the body.
Tapping works effectively when you are actually very present to anxious, stressful, angry feelings.
It works on issues that have just happened or in the past.
This makes it an excellent anti-anxiety and anti-stress tool.
By using EFT you can slowly – step by step– get a very good understanding of the part of you that feels so anxious.
It is also a way for you to get to know yourself better.
You will begin to notice, for example, the part of you that feels anxious is by the sinking feeling in your stomach.
Also, the inability to take a breath or the slight shakiness of your body.
It may sound strange to some but you can work toward connecting with your anxiety and other emotions by Tapping your face and parts of your body.
I work with Psychosynthesis Counselling and EFT and I combine both practices because I have found it be the most effective therapy both personally and professionally.
In Psychosynthesis we use the term sub-personalities. This ‘parts’ language is very useful. You may already be aware of the different parts of yourself that surface depending where you are and who you are with.
Our work would be to connect with these parts and begin a relationship with them. Does that sounds weird or strange? If you think about it the most important relationship is the one we have with ourselves.
EFT Tapping for Anxiety
I have worked with people who suffered extreme anxiety and were able to calm their anxiety by tapping.
Combined with Psychosynthesis counselling we explored the parts of the client that were anxious and what caused the anxiety.
Once identified we connected with that anxious part and explored what had made that part feel so anxious.
We all have split off parts of ourselves that we had to repress because as an baby/toddler, young child and teenager we did not have the resources to understand that we were NOT the cause of the unhappiness at home. Nor was it our fault there was addiction or alcohol abuse in our family.
In dysfunctional households the communication is usually really poor so when things are not explained or talked about. Children can feel responsible.
EFT can also help with issues of sexual or physical abuse. I would recommend finding a BACP counsellor who works with EFT.
Please also look at the research that has done on the effectiveness of EFT.
Talking therapy helps of course but sometimes we need something more. For those who feel therapy brings up so much and then they don’t quite know what to do with those feelings.
EFT can be very useful here in calming the mind and body to a more peaceful state.
We need to connect our thinking and physical bodies.
Every negative thought has a reaction in our bodies.
EFT can bring down stress and high anxiety levels. It can also alleviate heavy emotional states such as anger and depression.
Tapping can bring relief in minutes of things you have struggled with for a long time. At other times a little bit of investigation needs to take place.
Tapping also helps to see a situation from a different perspective. Suddenly you understand what your partner or friends have been trying to tell you.
Someone guiding you can help you to keep tapping and breathing while you focus on what you are feeling and thinking.
EFT Tapping for Anxiety and
Matrix Reimprinting
Matrix Reimprinting is working with EFT but in a more focused and targeted way and is a very helpful tool for working with more painful and traumatic memories.
We cannot change history, it happened.
What we can change is the emotional component of the memory.
If the emotions are shame, humiliation, guilt, we can work with these emotions and feelings and get some resolution/relief/understanding.
Many times when things happen to us as children we don’t understand or have a full picture of what or why something is happening.
All of us have memories that when they are remembered can bring up uncomfortable feelings.
It can be happy feelings but more often can be a shame, embarrassment, or some other heavy emotional energy.
We can work with this memory. We cannot change what happened to us but we can change the beliefs that we took away and now inform our present.

How can EFT ‘Tapping’ help you with anxiety and stress at work?
How many times are you at work and thinking I just can’t cope with this today.
EFT is very useful in the moment when you are experiencing feelings of fear, anxiety, or sadness or your thoughts are making you feel overwhelmed.
A few minutes in a quiet space can help you to centre and ground yourself so that are able to face difficult situations.
Not only will it take down your anxiety or fear but often will give you a different perspective on a situation.
How can EFT ‘Tapping’ help you with anxiety and stress at home?
Whatever your age, gender or situation tapping can help to alleviate stress.
In calming ourselves down it also enables us to see more clearly someone else’s point of view.
Whenever you start to feel resentment or anger against another person you can tap or masssge the different points.
This will enable you to take a few seconds to centre yourself and perhaps not say something you will regret or lead to a bigger argument.
Tapping can take down the level of the emotion so you are more grounded and are able to express your feeling without losing yourself.
If you and your partner are having a hard time communicating using EFT will help you both to take a step back and reassess the situation.
It can really help to change perspective and start to see another person’s point of view.
For Chronic and difficult issues, I advise seeing a BACP counsellor who uses EFT/Matrix Reimprinting.
